The 1619 Project: Community Conversations : Democracy

July 12 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Announcing: The 1619 Project: Community Conversations

There are many grievances regarding the actions taken by the current administration—too many to list individually. Many of you view our bookstore as a safe space to express your concerns and fears. In response, we have been active listeners and have provided support in various forms.

To help galvanize our voices, we are hosting Community Conversations, a monthly gathering to discuss the impact of current events.

Using The 1619 Project as our guide, we will focus on the themes of each chapter to deepen our understanding of what is happening and how we can better equip ourselves during this challenging time. Where possible, we will have subject matter experts to lead the discussions, but we will also rely on each other’s insights.

This month, we will focus on a chapter related to democracy. We will begin with a poem by playwright and poet Rev. Ina Anderson, followed by a discussion led by Rev., Dr. C. L. Stallworth, former five-term State Representative, about democracy and actions we can take today. Please review the chapter in preparation for the discussion. Bibliographies and refreshments will be provided.

We hope you will join us, be open-minded, and contribute your knowledge for the greater good of our communities.
