Movie Night: Sacred Soil: The Piney Woods School Story
September 12 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The story of Piney Woods School is chronicled in the documentary “Sacred Soil: The Piney Woods School Story,” which focuses on one of America’s oldest and largest historically Black boarding schools, founded in 1909 by educator Laurence C. Jones in Mississippi to provide educational opportunities during the Jim Crow era. The school, built on the principles of faith and self-sustainability, served marginalized Black students by offering a college-preparatory education alongside vocational training and a strong sense of community, enabling them to overcome historical adversity and become leaders.
