History of Paugussett Land

November 25 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join the Sovereign Land Trust and Clan Mother Shoran Waupatukuay Piper of Golden Hill Paugussett Indians for an evening exploring the history of Paugussett land and the stories that continue to shape southwestern Connecticut. The Golden Hill Paugussett people lived along these rivers and shores for thousands of years, fishing, farming, and building communities that thrived well before colonization. Their territory once stretched from the Housatonic River to Long Island Sound, encompassing what are now many of Connecticut’s coastal towns.

Through centuries of displacement and challenge, the tribe has carried forward its traditions and connection to places from ancient village sites to present-day reservations in Trumbull and Colchester. This program follows that journey and reveals how Paugussett history still moves beneath the surface of our modern landscape.

Clan Mother Shoran Waupatukuay Piper will lead the discussion, sharing the deeper story of Connecticut’s Indigenous past and present.
