Collaging with Ayanna Legros

Join Harlem based artist Ayanna Legros for a collage workshop exploring the legacy of Marsha P. Johnson! She will guide us in creating our own paper collages and explain the significance of the medium. Materials and food provided.

About the artist: Ayanna Legros (b. 1991) is a mixed-media artist, writer, and radio archivist. Her work is rooted in her Haitian lineage, and US Black upbringing in West Harlem. These roots and routes inform her paintings, collages, photographs, and glass assemblages. Her historical and archival training guides her interrogation of Western Civilization’s belief that Black peoples are incapable of maintaining civility, producing history, and embodying modernity. Her work is a multi-layered exercise in preserving historical memory, as she immortalizes figures who sit on the margins despite their vast contributions to humanity.
